Vegan Ice cream!!!!

I found one in India.. (tears!)

Vegan Ice Cream Shop <3

Vegan diet use no animal products.
So ice cream is usually made of soymilk, almond milk, coconuts milk etc.

After a long time, I could taste the yummies!

Non-sugar chocolate ( sweetness is from dates) and strawberry.

 Delicious.

Starting from daily tea, Chai, milk seems like must item for Indian cooking as it is believed very good to have milk as sacred cow’s offering.

I found vegetarian a lot but not vegan, the word itself are not known much.

I have been a vegan for about 2 years after knowing animal and environmental issues.
Here however, these options like taking tofu for paneer (cheese), or soy milk for cow milk
looks like an option considering health as it is low fat talking to a few people.

Whatever the reason is, we should appreciate healthy and
good food available for us without hurting anyone.

Where else, I go to Starbucks and Costa Coffee as  they keep soya milk as a milk alternative.

If you know any other vegan-friendly place, please let me know!

I got another favorite place in my neighbor!

Fasting

It is about fasting.

~☆~

And today is Karva chauth.
Just like last year, I joined Rachita and her cousin,
and woke up 5am to have breakfast before sunrise, so that we can fast all day until moon rise.

Here in India, fasting is not for diet but for the symbol of prayer.
It is Bhakti Yoga.

For example, some people had done fasting during Navaratri the other day,
the 9th night for devis,
or others do every week for a day depending on their devata,
Monday for Siva devotee, Tuesday for Hanumaan, Thursday for Guru etc.

According to Swami Sivananda's Sadhana Tattva,
fast is reccommended on Ekadasi, twice a month.
(Ekadasi ; the 11th day from full moon to new moon or new moon to full moon.)

In these case, it is ok to have fruits, dry fruits, sweets made with milk and those fruits.

So I sometimes join the fasting especially today,
as it is practiced by most of north Indian ladies, and I like that family & friend gathering and practice sadhana together.
;-)

Also, I do sometimes in full moon as my heart and body easily feel full, and require not much energy.
It is natural reaction.

So after all, I feel fresh and connected.

Thank You!
Om

Kathak

Gauri Diwakar & Group

Absolute beauty!

From Ananya Dance Festival this evening.

They are like jems!

The performance today was Kathak Dance in this beautiful old fort called Purana Qila.

Sound of gungru (feet bells) and elegant turn makes us audience trip to the ancient time.

Purana Qila Entrace; After this entrance, palm tree arcade led us to the main stage.

Prana Qila

Dussehara ~ Ramayana ~

 Kama vasana (Lust) 情欲
Krodha (Anger) 怒り
Moha (Attachment) 執着
Lobha (Greed)
Mada (Over Pride)
Matsara (Jealousy)
Swartha (Selfishness)
Anyaaya (Injustice) 不正
Amanavta (Cruelty) 残酷
Ahankara (Ego)

Navaratri Last Day

I visited Pannu san Family for the first day of the holidays.

It was still the last day of Navaratri, so entire family was on fasting including the 12-year- old children for the first time.
But they could not let me do so..., so once I reached their home, tasty sattvic food was waiting for me.

Then, following their daily habit, we went for a night street, and headed to bed as the morning starts early.
Children usually sleep at nine, and wakes up 5 am. Amazing!

Naturally, I woke up at 4:30, while the mother started to cook prasad,
Mediated at a room with temple, did pranayama at roof top ( the air is much more pure for Delhi), then went for a morning walk.

Got vegetables. I think it is a kind of cucumber.

Mom is frying Puri.

Flip it and here is golden color!

Put them in warmer to keep it warm.

6:30 sun rise.

Now that prasad is ready, family gathered and did Navaratri puja and arati.
The water they used during prayer is watered in Holi basil (tulsi) ,

and barley, which was planted on the first day of Navaratri.
It symbolizing a growth of fertility.

Prasad was packed in Tupperware to distribute to the girls in school where the wife works as a teacher.
Sweet halwa, chana (black small chickpea) and a piece of coconut.

We headed to school, and girls gathered in a classroom.
The teacher put tika (red powder) between the eyebrows, tie kalava (red string ) on their wrist,
and offered prasad.

They all look happy.

~♥~

Every single act was done with mindfulness with a meaning,
my heart feels purified by joining such beautiful spirit.

This day reminded me of feelings of gratitude and connection with people.

Thank you, Pannu san and children!

Langar

Quiet garden in the morning.

It is always interesting to see different cultures and customs in India.
Today I was invited to a ritual and lunch hosted by aunty, who follows Sikhism.
( I rent a room of 2nd floor of this house of aunty.)

This Sikh ritual is to sing songs by the men who wear white turban and Indian suits.
(I couldn't be on time for this part.)
Then food is served in the style of "Langar":

welcoming all visitors regardless their social background.

 With savory of Panjaab food,
cool turban-head uncles,
and madam in colorful & elegant kurti..
the garden turned to such a vibrant atmosphere.

Together with my lovely frien living upstairs, who is a big mama now
of this eight-month-old boy.

And tonight, I am going to stay with my colleage's family who is very devotional Hindu.
Tomorrow is an ausipicous day, last day of Navaratri, and they will do pooja in the early morning.

My journey to find beauty continues.
